Largest Full Moon for 2011
The Safe Together project in Muizenberg, organized by Truida Prekel, held a "Muizenberg Moonlight Meander" on Saturday.
Present to share telescopic views were Richard Ford (ASSA Cape Town), Christian Hettlage and Pierre van Heerden (SAAO) and Stephen Hoy.
"From Tzaneen, Polokwane and Louis Trichardt about 20 keen Moon gazers braved the overcast, drizzly conditions which also included a long detour on the N1, closed to traffic due to an articulated truck overturning on a sharp bend. We caught a brief glimpse of the largest full Moon on the evening of the 19th March.
"Proceedings started nearly 40 minutes late due to the truck accident, and because of the cloudy conditions, no Moon rise was visible. We had a much longer presentation than planned on our closest neighbour in space and then three lucky-draw winners each walked off with a GalileoScope (donated by SAAO).
"The Soutpansberg Astronomy Club would like to thank the owners and staff of Mountain Inn Hotel, SAAO, SAASTA, as well as the media, written and radio in advertising the event.
"To Morongoa Ramphele who received a GalileoScope from the Soutpansberg Astronomy Club for his enthusiasm as well as the lucky draw winners, Malcolm Tucker, Rita Schoeman and Marlize Nel, we hope that you have many, many evenings of enjoyment with your scopes."
Thanks to Richard Ford, Carol Botha, Rudie Loots and Kos Coronaios for sharing their Moon images.
nothing more to see. please move along.
